Q. How far apart should strapping be?

A. Ceiling strapping should be installed perpendicular to the joists above, at every 16 inches. A sheet of drywall is 48 inches or 4 feet wide, therefore 16 inch on-centre spacing permits the drywall to be strapped / fastened 4 times (one on each end and two in the middle) across its width.

A. Polyester strapping is smooth and glossy while polypropylene strapping has matte finish and is usually embossed. Polyester retains high tension over a long time period while polypropylene has low tension retention (often loses about half of the applied tension within an hour after being applied.)
