Description
Engine stands are designed to support the engine at a comfortable height and allow it to be rotated to access the top and underside. Even small engines can be heavy and difficult to move around. These engine stands offer wheels for hassle-free movement of the engine around the garage. They feature lead-free paint which is applied after a thorough chemical wash to ensure a long lasting finish for preventing rust. These engine stands have a reinforced steel neck that provides strength and eliminates flexing when supporting an engine block up to 6000 lb. Raptor Supplies offers engine stands along with floor cranes, fuel tank handlers, hoist trailers and hydraulic engine cranes from brands like OTC, Vestil, Beech, Fervi, Gray & Westward. Floor cranes provide the ability to lift heavy, awkward shaped objects, loads or materials safely and easily. These floor cranes feature portable design so that the operator can lift heavy objects in various locations around the premises with ease.
Uses & Applications
What is the use of an engine stand?
Engine stands are commonly used to support heavy truck diesel engines or transmissions for rebuilding and other procedures. They provide access to all sides of the engine and have wheels for manoeuvrability.
Working Mechanism
Engine stands enable mechanics to work on car or truck engines at an accessible height. These stands feature rotating arms to rotate the engine while it is in position. These arms can be adjusted to reach different positions depending on how the engine is mounted. An engine will typically be mounted to the stand at the flywheel end, using four holes where the transmission attaches. They come with a heavy cantilever frame to support the engine in the air so that the mechanic can work on any exposed parts.
Features
Vestil Counter Balanced Floor Crane
- Vestil counter balanced floor cranes feature an adjustable boom that offers maximum adjustment and versatility to lift loads up to 2000 lb.
- Boom can be raised with a manual hydraulic hand pump or push of a button on DC powered unit and telescopes out for greater reach.
- These floor cranes feature counterbalance design that eliminates the need for front legs, making the unit easier to manoeuvre and ideal for reaching tight, hard to reach areas.
- They come with two rigid 8 x 2 inch glass-filled nylon and two swivel 8 x 3 inch phenolic casters having side brakes.
Vestil Shop Crane Engine Hoist
- Vestil shop crane engine hoists are equipped with a telescopic boom that can be raised and lowered with a manual hydraulic hand pump for multiple lifting heights and capacities.
- These shop floor cranes have a high-capacity hydraulic cylinder that provides faster lifting action.
- These floor cranes further have a large diameter ram to withstand angled loads when lifting.
- These shop floor cranes feature heavy-duty steel construction with painted finish andinclude two rigid and two swivel casters for portability.
Beech Standard Floor Crane Counterweight
- Beech counterweight floor cranes are designed without front legs to eliminate interference with load lifting or equipment.
- These floor cranes feature robust steel construction with chrome-plated finish to handle loads ranging between 1000 to 2000 lb.
OTC Engine Stand
- OTC engine stands feature 96 to 1 ratio worm and gear set to provide a full 360 degree rotation of the components.
- These engine stands have a 12 ton jack to provide the swing radius needed for clearance.
- OTC engine stands are equipped with two front wheels and two rear casters for mobility.
- They come with a handle that locks in any position.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How to mount an engine on a stand?
A.
- Remove the engine from the vehicle by disconnecting all wiring and unbolting the exhaust & motor mounts. Lift the engine out of the vehicle using an engine hoist.
- Begin removing the transmission after the engine is safely removed from the vehicle and the engine hoist is lowered so that the engine is on the ground.
- Prepare the engine stand. Engine stands usually have four adjustable arms with long bolt holes. A hardware store can provide bolts for mounting the engine to the engine stand. It is ideal for the bolt to reach at least one inch into the engine block and pass through the engine stand mounts.
- Using the engine hoist, remove the engine and move it towards the engine stand. Remove the pivoting mount that holds the arms on the engine stand. Then, remove the pin in the rear of the engine stand.
- Install the bolts through the engine stand mounts and into the engine where the transmission is mounted. Mount two of the arms low on the engine and bolt the other two higher.
- The pivoting centre of the engine stand mounts should be centred on the flywheel. Adjust the arms on the engine stand mounts accordingly. By doing so, the engine will be balanced on the stand.
- Attach the engine stand mounts lower to the ground, so the engine is at the same level as the engine stand itself. Insert the circular pivoting centre of the mount into the engine stand.
- As the engine stand begins to support the engine, slowly lower the engine hoist. Ensure that all fasteners are securely fastened & the engine stand is locked in place. You may disconnect the hoist after ensuring that the engine stand can support the weight of the engine. You can access all sides by rotating the engine mounted to the engine stand.
Q. Are engine stands safe to use?
A. Yes, engine stands are safe to use when used with proper safety measurements and expertise. Avoid the risk of personal injury or property damage by following all operating instructions. We suggest not exceeding the load capacity or weight limit of the engine stand.
Q. Can you run an engine on an engine stand?
A. Yes, running an engine on an engine stand is a great way to break in, tune and test a new or newly repaired engine. It gives the convenience to fix any leaks or other issues without taking the engine back out of the car. Running the engine outside of a vehicle can be extremely dangerous.
Q. How do you put an engine on an engine stand?
A. The easiest way to attach an engine to an engine stand is to remove the rotating head assembly from the engine stand. You can then attach this assembly to the engine and align the adjustable arms. Once you attach the assembly, hoist the engine to the engine stand?s height and carefully reattach the assembly and the engine to the stand.
Q. How long should my engine stand bolts be?
A. Most engine stands should come with bolts. The proper bolts will insert between three-quarters of an inch to one inch inside the engine block. You should attach washers between the bolt heads and the engine stand as needed to keep the bolts from sticking out too far if they are too long. Don?t add too many washers & don?t deviate from manufacturer recommendations while mounting engines on stands.
