A threaded part's maximum minor & pitch diameter are measured using a Go thread ring gauge. The minimum pitch diameter on a threaded part must not be exceeded, according to the No-Go thread ring gauge.

Thread measuring gauges are used to measure the size of an unknown bolt, nut, nail, hose, drill bit, pin, rivet, tap, threaded rods, screw, washer or wire quickly and accurately. They include screw thread inserts (STI), clued plug, ring, 3-wire, micrometre, tri-roll comparator, measuring wire, and roll thread gauges.

Based On Threads

UNC

They feature coarse spacing to easily loosen & tighten with few turns. These threads are compatible with UNRC and UNC threads.

UNF

UNS

These threads are designed for special thread sizes that do not fall under UNC, UNF, UN or any other unified thread type. They can be fine, coarse, extra-fine or ultra-fine, but they mate with other UNS threads only.

NPT

These threads feature a tapered profile that wedges the mating threads together to ensure a leakproof seal without using a gasket or an O-ring.

Metric

These threads are measured in millimetres and are specified by their pitch & diameter. They can have coarse, fine, extra-fine or ultra-fine thread spacing and are compatible with other metric threads only.
