Description

Solid rivets are small metal pins used to fasten two or more materials together permanently. They are commonly found in the aerospace, automotive and construction industries. Solid steel rivets consist of a shank & a head which can be easily deformed using a hammer or rivet gun. These rivets are suitable for supporting both shear & tensile loads and installation in watertight applications.

Features

  • These rivets are divided into 3 parts: the head, the shank and the tail.
  • The top-most part of the rivet is the head. It can be made using diverse materials, depending upon the application it is being used for.
  • The part below the rivet is called the shank or body and is round in shape.
  • The portion below the rivet body is called the tail and is a little tapered for easy installation.

Copper

Types Of Joints

Chain Riveted Joint

The adjusted rows of rivets may be opposite each other as opposed to straight lines.

Butt Joint

Two parts are joined in a straight line from edge to edge. The clamping is done using an outer casing plate and is then riveted upward through parallelly drilled holes.

Single Riveted Joint

It has more than one rivet fixed along a line, typically in a lap joint, while rows in a butt joint can be seen from both the upper and lower surfaces.

Diamond Riveted Joint

The rivets are arranged in rows that are broad at the ends of the butt and tapered at opposite sides, providing the diamond shape.

Lap Joint

The ends that complete the operation of both elements overlap slightly and the riveting is done through the coincidence hole.

Zig-Zag Riveted Joint

It has lines that can be staggered and do not complement each other.

Double Riveted Joint

It is also known as a double butt joint. It is created when two rows of rivets are involved above a joint or are employed from both the top and bottom in a butt joint.

Types Of Solid Rivets

Flat

Used for small and light jobs on sheet metal. Suitable for non-ferrous metals and thin sheets.

Domed Head

Ideal for applications with low load-bearing requirements. Designed for fastening quickly, especially when high torque force is not required.

Flush Mount

Used on the exterior of aircraft where a smooth appearance and the removal of unnecessary aerodynamic drag are necessary. Commonly referred to as countersunk rivets as they use countersink holes.

Based on Head Style

Brazier

Used to connect two or more pieces of different thicknesses.

Round

Designed with a round head on one end and a solid shank on the other end. Suitable for applications that need very low resistance to vibrations and small movements.

Universal

Come with a rounder head and a lower profile than standard round head rivets. Called 'universal' as they can be used in place of any rivet head style.

Modified Brazier

Feature a low-profile head design. Suitable for professional trailer repair applications.
