Panel nuts from Accurate Manufactured Products Group and Vulcan Hart are used for mounting threaded electrical switches. They are ideal for potentiometer control & switch hardware. These panel nuts feature a low number of threads due to the width of the hole being close to the actual diameter.
Features
Panel nuts are used on audio equipment, vehicle dashboards and circuit enclosures.
They feature a low profile and a large hole to overall diameter ratio.
These nuts have a hexagonal shape for tool fastening or a round shape with a knurled outer surface for hand fastening.
These fasteners are not designed for high torque applications and are frequently used with spring or lock washers to prevent loosening and component movement.
Buying Guide
Thread Type
UNEF
Have extra-fine spacing. Cover a small distance with each turn for accurate & incremental adjustments. Engage with more threads in a smaller space than UNF threads. Found on thin-walled tubes & thin nuts.
Metric
Measured in millimetres and determined by screw diameter & pitch. Can be fine, coarse, extra-fine or ultra-fine. Mate only with metric threads.
NPSM
Used for mechanical connections where a leak-proof seal isn't required. Can also be used for sealed connections like hose & tube fittings to stop leaks with gaskets or internal seats.
UNS
Designed for special thread sizes that do not fall under UNC, UNF, UN or other unified thread types. Can be fine, coarse, extra-fine or ultra-fine. Mate with other UNS threads only.
Based On Material
Steel
Offers structural rigidity, hardness and durability
Very closely spaced. Travel a very short distance with each turn, allowing precise & incremental adjustments.
Fine Thread Spacing
Spaced close together so that they don't loosen when vibrating. Travel a short distance with each turn, allowing precise adjustments.
Thread Fit
Class 2B
Provides a medium fit during mating using internal threads.
Class 6H
Used for internal threads. '6' indicates the medium tolerance grade and 'H' denotes the tolerance position with zero fundamental deviation (distance of the tolerance position from the basic size of the unit).
Panel Nut Shapes
Hex
Tighten with a wrench to provide more torque than knurled panel nuts. Are extremely thin and are used in tight spaces such as electrical panels. Are also known as dress nuts.
Round
Provide a secure grip for tightening and loosening by hand. Are extremely thin, allowing use in tight spaces such as electrical panels. Zinc plated to prevent corrosion in wet environments.
